Feature On Pakka Qilla, Hyderabad

Introduction:  Pacco Qillo commonly known as Pakka Qilla is an early modern fort in Hyderabad, Pakistan. The Fort was constructed on the hillock known locally as Gunjy, by Mian Ghulam Shah Kalhoro, around 1768 when he founded the city of Hyderabad. The story of the Pakka fort is a fascinating tale, one documenting the rise and fall of different rulers.

History about Pakka Qilla: The Pacco Qillo built by Ghulam Shah still remains today but in a devasted state and a dire need of repair. During the Talpur rule over Sindh, Mir Fateh Ali Khan leave Khudabad and shifted his capital to Hyderabad in 1789. He also used the Hyderabad Fort to reside and hold his court in it. For the purpose he added a Haram and other buildings to accommodate the ruling family and his relations. Still the court is running by Government official and authorities. This was the time when Pakka Qilla looks beautiful. It has new look and strong. Houses were made beautiful. It was well furnished, and people of Hyderabad and other areas love to live there. There is only one main entrance, opening in the north towards Shahi Bazar.

Current Situation of Pakka Qilla

There was a time when the Pakka Qilla was new and well looked. Now it has move towards devasting condition. Pakka Qilla now not in a good condition. Now in Pakka Qilla only poor people used to live. But, when it was in a good condition, People of Shahi Family and Mir's and other rich people used to live there. The fort now in a damage condition. Now it is not in good look and well furnished, all the thing is in bad and poor condition.  There is no good drainage system. Many of the time sewerage water is stand in the corner of the street of Pakka Qilla. Now there is no maintenance in the fort. The fort is unable to rebuild again because the base is too weak to build. Since almost two centuries, there is no repairment work for the fort. Approximately 1000 homes are there where people used to live. Near to Pakka Qilla there are 2 girls school named as Khadija High School and the other one is Government High School. There is also one Government school for boys as well. There is a college named as Hidayat Ullah College. There is Hasrat Mohani library where some memorable things of Mughals were there.
Today, Living inside the fort is not less than any kind of danger. According to the residence of Pakka Qilla, There is no such drainage system. And this is the cause that fort is getting worst day by day. There was a calligraphy on the walls and picture gallery in the fort and also there was ancient accessories which were stolen and robbed. It is an unfortunate of Sindh and as well as Pakistan that the historical fort has reached to such condition and its wall are falling slowly and gradually, While people are still living inside and near by the fort. The Fort is almost come to an end and it is very difficult to bring it to its actual condition.
People who lived in the fort was very angry and upset against the Government of the destruction of famous fort. People are saying that it is a tragedy that Pakka fort is suffering from this fate. Its wall have been falling down for a long time, while people continue to live there. People are more hopeful about the fort future. They hope that authority should protect whatever is left behind in the fort. Otherwise another important heritage of Sindh will be destroyed.
